Sari I Khoury, Professor, artist and Jerusalemite passed away in 1997. His work has been exhibited throughout the world.
Born in Jerusalem, Palestine in 1941, Sari Khoury moved with his family to the United States as a young man. He received his M.F.A. from Cranbook Academy of Arts and subsequently taught at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky before coming to Central Michigan University in 1967.
Sari spent over 29 years as faculty and for a period, Chairman of the Art Department. He focused on his teaching and studio work. Yet, he always kept connections with his place of birth in Jerusalem. It was in this ancient city that he first developed his artistic talent, influenced by the colors, people and deep spiritual and cultural atmosphere that permeated his childhood.
It is a familiar refrain that an artist’s life is too short. Fortunately, Sari Khoury’s art continues to be exhibited and shared with the public.
Join Art Reach for the month of June as we celebrate the work of Sari Khoury. To learn more about Khoury’s life, his artwork, and previous exhibitions, visit www.khouryart.org.
